Board Girl of Addis Ababa

A portrait of a skater girl who is part of ESG (Ethiopian Girl Skaters) a collective started by Sosina Challa in 2020 to provide a safe and inclusive environment for girls in a conservative cultural environment and as a push back against gender discrimination within the male dominated sphere of skateboarding. 

The first in "The Board Girls" collection of paintings that showcases girls who skateboard, to challenge gender and cultural stereotypes.

The piece has been painted using both oil (for the body) and acrylic (background and clothing), and incorporates addition pattern and texture with the use of stamped modelling paste representing the richness of Ethiopian culture.
