Welcome to the origin story...
London born self taught artist. Originally from a design background I shifted my focus to art after being made redundant whilst heavily pregnant with my son in 2020.
Art has always been both an anchor to identity, and a lens through which I can explore it, with particular areas of interest being cultural and gender roles for women.
Bo is for him, Ki is for me.
There are two competing parts of me: The Mother, and the person I was before I joined The Motherhood. The former, inspired by the magic, whimsy and joy my son brought to my life unburdened by reality, and latter being the darker, considered and rooted side which is concerned with excavating absolute truth and projecting this through my practice.
BOKI is the combination of mine and my son's nicknames, addressing the somewhat split personality of my work: the fun and quirky, illustrative, which doesn't take life too seriously, and the more serious technical pieces of fine art.
